Deepest lakes
How maximum depth, average depth, estimated depth, and measured depth differ—and why the distinction matters.

Deepest lakes
Maximum depth is the deepest known point. Average depth is a lake-wide estimate. Estimated depth is not the same as directly measured depth.
Deep lakes often have layered water, cold basins, unusual oxygen conditions, and unique habitat zones. A depth record should never be shown without the source and measurement type.
This guide helps visitors read depth claims carefully instead of treating every number online as equal.
